How To Build A Low Cost Cage

Firstly, LOOK AROUND. Most of the stuff that you will need can build a reptile cage can be found around the house. E.g. off cuts, building scraps, old cabinets etc. If there is none of these around you should try looking in council clean-ups, salvation army stores and so on. All you need to do is start with a basic idea and expand on it. Just think that you will most certainly need 6 sides and a glass door. If you can get some glass for free you are on a good start.

My first cage i built was made from an old record cabinet. We removed the glass and totally pulled it apart and began re-building. The only money we spent on it was the screws and glue.

The second cage was also made for almost nothing. We had run out od wood under the house so we went for a drive to the Salvation Army Store at Sutherland and picked up an old T.V cabinet for $20. This is all the money I spent on it.

The cage that I built for my Water Dragon is probably my proudest cage. It is basically a woodern platform sitting on 3 ice-cream buckets with a plastic guard to stop him fron swimming underneath and getting stuck. the tank is filled with 20cm of water and 5cm of gravel. I also have a fish tank filter underneath.

My snake cage is just a fish tank with a modified lid.
